Factual Programming, Togs and Jam

Togs and Jam

official festival style addition

Festival clothes, hair and make up

For my main factual program i will be working with Megan, looking at festival clothing from a subjective point of view. We looked a lot at festival clothes ideas on the internet and noticed that there is little to non that relate to rock festivals and the range of style that comes with the genre. So the target audience will be females aged 13-20 that listen to heavier genres of music, although it i a niche audience, i feel that it is one that has been neglected.

From this initial idea we decided to create our own youtube channel “Togs and Jam” we chose this name because it is unusual but literally means ‘clothes and stuff’ which means that our channel isn’t stuck just in the clothes market, in the long run we plan to do other things including album and gig reviews.

For primary research we have put together a questionnaire  that we will be given to girls that we know have been to festivals in the past. Click to view Questionnaire. The overall aim of the questionnaire, was to gain an insight into the opinions of other girls that have been to festivals in the past, and what they thought was practical and essential in terms of make up, clothing and hairstyles.

All of the videos that i researched were quite informal and messy, in that they were filmed in peoples back gardens or bedrooms. We are hoping to use the makeup room to create a more professional look to our piece.

Research

I found this video extremely interesting because of the simplicity of it, i would like to use something like this perhaps at the end of our production to inspire people on festival appropriate outfits. This is possible because we will be attending a festival ourselves in the next month (Download festival june 14-16 and Reading august 23-25) so we will have chance to film other peoples outfits at the festival with peoples permission. I found this easy to watch and intriguing as i wanted to know where certain items were from, this is an element that i want our piece to have.

This video is really informal and unprofessional because she has filmed it in her own home, this is the kind of look that we will be avoiding in our own video. However the fortmat of the video is similar to that which we want to use, however we won’t be modelling the clothes ourselves.

I looked a lot at Mark Heyes’ videos on you tube because it is set out in a similar format to what we want. I also watch his slot on Lorraine (itv) every wednesday morning. I think that he achieves a good balance of informality with a professional look.

We will also be using some of the camera angles and movements that they use in Mark Heyes’ videos for example a close up of the clothes the model is wearing and tilt from head to toe, to view the full outfit.

We filmed on friday 7th June, however the footage wasn’t usable because the lighting was too dark. We also felt that as presenters we weren’t as enthusiastic as we could have been, and the location was too dull. All these factors have contributed to the decision of a re shoot week begining 24th June. This gives us enough time to perfect our presentation and come up with a new location. We plan on taking a less formal approach to this attempt hopefully this will make it look more natural and less staged.

Currently we are looking for an outdoor location with a festival feel to it, this will allow people to see the outfits in a similar environment to where they will be wearing them
